Katrina is a former model who has the hots for her bodyguard.
Katrina King is a former model and widow who lives off the grid. On one visit to her regular coffee shop, she has a meet-cute with an attractive man. He asks her out, but she doesn't feel a spark so she declines. Unbeknownst to her, the girls at the table next to her are live-tweeting under the hashtag #CafeBae about Katrina and the man.
Katrina's bodyguard Jas Singh drives her home from the cafe, and she tells him the man asked her out. Jas is instantly jealous because he harbors secret feelings for Katrina. Katrina has feelings for Jas, but he's her employee so anything she says or does would be inappropriate.
When #CafeBae goes viral, Katrina begins to panic. Will they try to find out who she is? She goes into hiding at Jas' family farm so she can't be found. Jas and Katrina are in close quarters in the small farmhouse, and their relationship develops in forced proximity.
Both of the main characters are biracial, with Katrina being half-Thai and half-Caucasian and Jas coming from a Punjabi family with a Mexican grandparent. Jas is trilingual and speaks English, Punjabi, and Spanish.
This is the sequel to The Right Swipe in the Modern Love series, but the books could be read out of order. The Right Swipe is about Rhiannon's romance, and Girl Gone Viral follows Rhiannon's roommate Katrina. The series reminds me of Jasmine Guillory's The Wedding Date series and Talia Hibbert's Brown Sisters trilogy, as each new novel revolves around a minor character in the previous book.
Summer Morton captures the emotion and cadence of a modern woman's inner dialogue. Brian Pallino has a deep voice and his narration sounds either stoic or angry in the beginning, but as Jas' feelings for Katrina develop his narration becomes more emotional.
Recommended for romance fans.
